Why an architect in Mumbai

Most Mumbai flats are badly planned, not badly decorated. As architects we can move the walls: reclaim the passage, open the kitchen to light, and make the home live far larger than its carpet area.

Why Mumbai homes need a plan before a palette

Mumbai flats rarely fail on finishes. They fail on the plan: a long passage eating carpet area, a kitchen closed off at the back, a bedroom that fits the bed or the wardrobe but not both. Builder layouts are drawn to sell, not to live in, and older society flats were planned for families that lived differently. As architects we start there, moving a wall, opening the kitchen to the living room or reclaiming a passage, then design the interiors around the new plan. The same budget goes much further when the layout is right first.

From Worli towers to Borivali family flats

Mumbai is several housing markets in one. In Worli and Lower Parel it's high-floor towers, where the work is glare, views and a finish that matches the address. Bandra, Khar, Santacruz, Juhu and Vile Parle mix older co-operative societies, bungalows and redevelopment towers. Andheri, Goregaon and Borivali are mostly family 2 and 3BHKs where storage and flexible rooms matter most, and Powai, Thane and Mulund add large township flats. We plan each one for what that building and that family actually need.

“We had a fantastic experience working with our interior designer, who transformed our house into a beautiful, modern home. From stunning quartzite stone to our dining table featuring exquisite mother-of-pearl inlays, every detail was thoughtfully designed and executed to perfection. Their excellent coordination with the carpenter and other craftsmen ensured a flawless finish.”

“Before the project, the space looked ordinary and didn't reflect who we are. After the transformation, it feels open, warm and full of character. What stood out most was how well they understand what Indian homes really need. Every corner looks beautiful but is also practical, with smart storage and layouts built around how my family actually lives. They listened patiently to our preferences instead of pushing expensive options.”

“Really happy with the work done by KAAGJ Architects for the complete interiors of my flat at Hiranandani Estate. Gargi and Akshay were very professional and easy to work with. I trusted them completely, and they did a fantastic job transforming the flat into a beautiful and completely different space.”

“We couldn't be happier with how our flat has turned out. They really took the time to understand our vision and brought it to life in a way that perfectly blends our style with their expertise. Every detail, from the layout to the smallest touches, was thoughtfully considered, and the entire process was stress-free, with great communication along the way.”

Interior design cost in Mumbai

In Mumbai the budget is shaped by the building as much as the home: society rules, older services and how much of the plan needs civil work all move the number. A resale flat in an older co-operative society usually needs more behind the walls than a new tower, so we price the plan first, then the finishes. The bands below are where turnkey homes typically land. After a first site visit we give you a fixed, itemised quote: no surprises.

Typical turnkey interior design cost by home size
HomeTurnkey cost
3BHK interior design costPremium: veneer or acrylic finishes, upgraded kitchen, false ceiling throughout.₹25 – ₹35 lakh

FAQ

Interior design in Mumbai, your questions

Both, in one team. KAAGJ is led by licensed architects Ar. Akshay Kekan and Ar. Gargi Jadhav from a studio in Goregaon West. We re-plan the layout first, then design and build the interiors, for 3BHK and 4BHK apartments, penthouses, villas and bungalows across Mumbai.

For a 3BHK, turnkey interiors typically run ₹25–35 lakh at a premium finish; a 4BHK or penthouse ₹48–70 lakh, and a villa or bungalow ₹70 lakh to ₹1.5 crore. In Mumbai the building matters too: an older society flat that needs rewiring and new plumbing costs more to do properly than a new tower apartment of the same size. Yes. Most Mumbai societies need an NOC before work starts, restrict working hours, limit material in the lift and take a deposit against damage to common areas. We prepare the paperwork, plan deliveries around the rules and keep the society informed, so the project doesn't stall in week one.

Ideally before possession. A new redevelopment flat comes with the builder's layout, and that is the cheapest moment to change it: before tiles, wiring and false ceilings go in. If redevelopment is still a year or two away, we usually advise limited, movable work in the current home.

Right across the city, from Worli and Lower Parel to Bandra, Khar, Santacruz, Juhu and Vile Parle, Andheri, Goregaon and Borivali, and east to Powai, Mulund, Bhandup and Thane. Our studio is in Goregaon West. Pick your area below for local detail.

Yes, with a phased plan. We schedule the noisy civil work and the rooms you can do without first, keep one bathroom and the kitchen usable as long as possible, and seal off work areas from the rest of the home. For a full re-plan, moving out for part of the project is usually faster and cheaper.
