Thane homes, from Naupada to Ghodbunder Road
Thane is really several cities in one. Old Thane around Naupada, Ram Maruti Road and the station has older societies with sturdy structures and dated interiors. Pokhran Road No. 2 and Vasant Vihar have mid-2000s towers near Upvan Lake, and the long stretch of Ghodbunder Road, through Manpada, Kolshet and Hiranandani Estate, is lined with large gated townships handed over in the last decade. Majiwada, near the Eastern Express Highway junction, has dense high-rise clusters such as Rustomjee Urbania. Each type needs a different start. In the older buildings it is wiring, plumbing and a closed kitchen. In the newer townships it is usually a builder's layout that ignores how the family will actually use the extra space.
Making large Thane layouts work for a whole family
Thane flats are often bought by families moving up in space, sometimes with parents living in. That changes the plan. We think about a ground-level-friendly bedroom for elders close to a bathroom, a pooja space that isn't squeezed into a corridor, and a dining area that can seat everyone on festival days. Ghodbunder Road towers frequently come with large decks or balconies facing the hills; we plan these as usable rooms with weather-proof finishes rather than leaving them as drying space. Where two smaller rooms sit side by side, it can make more sense to merge them into one bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe. Every decision starts with your routine, then the drawings follow.
3BHK, 4BHK and penthouse interiors in Thane's townships
Thane's larger homes, the 3BHKs and 4BHKs on Ghodbunder Road, the township towers around Majiwada and Hiranandani Estate, and the penthouses with decks facing the hills, are often more generous than their Mumbai equivalents. We use that space deliberately. A utility room, a staff room or a large deck is planned as a real part of the home, not left as storage. Children's rooms get joinery that can be reconfigured as they grow rather than replaced, and the main bedroom gets a proper dressing area. In penthouses we plan the terrace as an outdoor room with shade, lighting and weather-proof finishes. Kitchens in the newer towers are often long galleys, so a tall pantry wall and a breakfast counter usually work better than another row of overhead cabinets. Everything is quoted itemised after the site visit.
Re-planning older flats in Thane West and East
Older Thane societies near the station, in Naupada and around Gokhale Road were built for a different way of living: small enclosed kitchens, separate dining rooms and long passages. Renovating them well means questioning that plan. As architects we check which walls are load-bearing before suggesting anything, then reopen the kitchen, borrow light into dark internal rooms and rework bathrooms whose plumbing has run its course. We also handle the practical side, from society permissions to keeping debris out of shared corridors. For families staying in during the work, we phase the renovation so at least one bathroom and a sleeping area stay usable throughout. Done well, an older Thane flat ends up brighter and more practical than many newer ones.
